MUAYTHAI is Thailand’s national sport which
originated at the same time as the kingdom. In the olden days,
it was regularly practiced by soldiers for close-up fighting.
It was also trained together with the double and single swords.
MUAYTHAI is played in leisure times when not carried out in wars.
Nai-Kanom-Tom was the most famous boxer in the first era of the
Ayutthaya period. As for the last era of the period, Pra-Jao-Sia,
Khun-Luang-Sorasak, Pra-Kao-Taksin and Prayapichai-Dabhak was
the most famous of them all. In the Ratanakosin era, Suan-Jao-Chet
arena and Suan Kularb arena are among the first boxing rings of
the period. In the early days, Kad-Chuak boxing was very popular.
Kad-chuak boxing is the form of fighting in which one needs to
tie a rope around the fist instead of using present days boxing
gloves.
